Not many people know that the DanceSport is a sport that's official recognised by the International Olympic Committee IOC!
On the 8th of September, 1997, The International Olympic Committee announced that it had recognised the International Dance Sport Federation (IDSF) as a recognized federation and full member of the IOC.
Full membership in the IOC, means, a final acceptance of DanceSport as a sport. This acceptance as a recognised sport does not mean that DanceSport competitors can already compete in the next Olympic Games. The aim of the IDSF is to make DanceSport part of the 2008 Olympic Games, but there is still a long way to go.
